Fort Pickens and Fort Barrancas close due to Tropical Storm Ida

The National Park Service has announced the closure of both Fort Pickens and Fort Barrancas near Pensacola due to the approach of Tropical Storm Ida.

The areas are exposed to the wind and water from the storm. All other areas of Gulf Islands National Seashore are also closed, as are 14 Florida State Parks so far, including Eden Gardens State Park, St. Andrews State Park, St. Joseph Peninsula State Park, Grayton Beach State Park, St. George Island State Park, Perdido Beach State Park, Blackwater River State Park and all other coastal state parks in Northwest Florida.

If you are planning to visit the area this week, please be careful and please also check with your destination for the latest closure information before traveling. If you are looking for something to do indoors to avoid the weather, consider checking out www.exploresouthernhistory.com. I've recently added a number of new Southern historic sites that might be of interest.
